Majaoni Primary School Twinning Project

Kilifi, Kenya

Several Canadian schools -- including Hadley Junior High School in Gatineau, Quebec, Blessed Kateri School in Calgary Alberta, and others just coming aboard -- are collecting money to pay for school fees for students at Majaoni Primary School in Kilifi Kenya, and help this very needy school repair its facilities. This school desperately needs help to install a new roof, pour concrete floors so the children don't need to sit in the dirt, and buy desks. We are in the process of raising $15,000 to pay for these renovations, as well as $1200 to sponsor 48 students at the school whose families are too poor to pay the modest school fees of about $30 a year. These students are listed below.

MAJAONI PRIMARY SCHOOL

INTRODUCTION

The school is located in Coast Province, Kilifi District, Bahari Division, Tezo Location. It is about 6 km from Kilifi Town along Kilifi Malindi Road to the West.

The school was started by the S.D.A Church Missionaries in 1959. It was then taken over by the Kenya Government in 1969. The Government sent teachers but parents were left to do the construction of buildings for their children. Totaling to 450 pupils.

 PHYSICAL FACILITIES

The school land is about 4 acres where in it 14 classes have been constructed. However, the conditions of the classrooms are not upto date and standard.

None of the rooms have doors nor window. Most of the classes are not plastered and their floors need to be renovated. Four classrooms have unfinished roofs which force the children to congest in the remaining rooms rain seasons.
